This is the 2nd wine of Chateau d'Issan, Troisième Cru/3rd Growth, and it's a stunner.
Made with 52% Cabernet Sauvignon and 48% Merlot, 35% in oak for 14 months, it exhibits a beautiful deep ruby-red colour with youthful purple hues. There is an enticing array of aromas on the nose - red fruit notes, (including ripe red cherries and red currants), accompanied by hints of blackberries. Additionally, there are subtle floral nuances, such as violets, and a touch of cedar and tobacco from the oak aging.
On the palate it is smooth with medium body. Silky tannins contribute to a well-rounded structure. The red fruit flavours detected on the nose translate beautifully to the palate, delivering a harmonious blend of red cherries and currants. There's also a hint of blackberry and plum, adding depth. The oak influence is evident with delicate notes of vanilla and spices, providing complexity. The wine has a balanced acidity that keeps it lively and fresh. The finish is moderately long, leaving a lingering impression of red fruits and a subtle earthiness.
Blason d'Issan 2018 is a delightful Bordeaux wine that showcases the elegance and fruit-forward nature of the Margaux appellation. While it can be enjoyed now, it also has the potential to age gracefully in the cellar, allowing its flavors to evolve and mature over time.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate says
(88-90) (Very good to Outstanding) Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Blason d'Issan is scented of earth, herbs, warm plums and cassis with tar hints. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm and grainy with a lively backbone and savory finish.
