It's only 8 years since 2 School friends Sebastien Dupré and Guillaume Goujon founded this Domaine and they have practiced Agro Ecology from the start. Now fully certified Organic (and on the way to fully Biodynamic) the wines have improved so much in the few short years of the Domaine's existence.
All Beaujolais Cru (red) are made with 100% Gamay grapes and there are no surprises here, It's just a really good example of this style of wine - medium bodied, fruity, soft tannins......
On the nose there are cherry fruits, discrete spices and a floral scent.
In the mouth the fruit is punchy and crisp and well concentrated.
The finish is clean and long with a faint note of residual spices.
This is a Beaujolais in the most fun sense of the word.
This is one of the few red wines that everyone agrees you should not serve at room temperature.
Because the Gamay grape is relatively low in tannins, it works really well slightly chilled* and goes great with chicken, pasta and seafood as it is a lighter bodied red wine
*not as chilled as white wines, just stick it in the fridge for a little while before serving.
The Beaujolais region lies to the south of Burgundy (technically part of it!) as you head for Lyon. There are 10 Village Crus of which Cote de Brouilly is one. Red wines are made from 100% Gamay , which is a thin skinned varietal with low tannins, giving a lighter fresh, fruity wine.
