Second wine of the fabled Chateau Leoville Barton, this offers a dense garnet colour with a nose of black fruits, liquorice, hint of fresh hazelnuts, delicately woody.
The attack is subtle and the tannins silky. The palate develops notes of black fruits, blackcurrant.
It is above all, elegant with lovely fruit flavours and well-balanced tannins.
Aged 16 months in French oak
Made with 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, it offers an excellent structure with aromas of dark berry fruits with a touch of vanilla, charming tannins and is approachable immediately
This wine is also available in Magnums! It is generally acknowledged that Magnums age better and longer so, if you can wait.......
Wine Spectator says
91 Points : Fresh, with lively acidity adding sparkle to the mix of dark plum, blackberry and blueberry compote flavors. A solid iron spine imparts a minerally component to the finish. Features a bit of grip, so moderate cellaring is advised. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2022 through 2030.
Decanter says
91 points : Dark, beguiling nose, rich and ripe, concentrated with violets and sweet black liquorice. The palate is ample and generous with grippy, chewy tannins. Plenty of structure
Gault & Millau says
A great second wine for it's finesse, it's depth and classic definition of texture.
