Le Comte de Malartic is the second wine from the renowned Cru Classés de Graves, Chateau Malartic Lagraviere (one of only 6 Graves wines to be classified for both red and white!) in Pessac Leognan.
Located just outside Leognan (as you drive towards the Irish owned Ch de Fieuzal actually) the vineyard has seen huge improvements since 1997 when the current owners purchased the estate and started the upgrades. It is now back in the top echelon of Pessac wines. Incidentally, 2020 is the first vintage called Le Comte de Malartic. Previously it was known as La Reserve de Malartic!
Made with a very precisely defined 78.2% Merlot, 17.8% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, it offers excellent density balanced by a remarkable freshness and real complexity.
Starting with real aromatic power accompanied by tremendous freshness, the palate is palate is bright, lively, long and dense.
A lovely wine, as can be seen from the reviews listed below!

(88-90) points
Sporting a deep purple-black color, it rolls nonchalantly out of the glass with notes of plum preserves, warm cassis and redcurrant jelly, plus hints of pencil lead, mossy tree bark and ground black pepper. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating, uncomplicated, juicy black fruits, framed by lovely freshness and soft tannins, finishing with a peppery lift. Simply delicious!
James Suckling Says
92-93 “Serious second wine with loads of blackberry and dark-earth character. Some bark, too. It’s full and layered. Lots of flavor and structure. Well done. ”

90-92 “Lots of ripe darker fruits (blackberries/cassis), leafy herbs, and chocolate as well as classic Graves notes of gravelly earth emerge from the 2020 Le Comte De Malartic, which is medium to full-bodied, round, and up-front on the palate, with a soft, forward texture. Despite its up-front approachability, it should drink well for at least a good decade or more.”
Vinous – Antonio Galloni says
88-90, The 2020 Le Comte de Malartic-Lagravière is a soft, easygoing second wine. Cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, mint and floral accents lift a core of sweet red berry fruit. Le Comte is a blend of young vine fruit and parcels that don’t go into the Grand Vin. Tasted two times.
