Francois Raquillet is the 11th generation of his family at this estate and has recently been joined by his daughter Jeanne (who is listed first on the label - fatherly love!!)
They produce rich generous red wines which score as highly as most Cote d'Or wines. Influenced by the (increasing) age of the vines - now over 70+ years and the positive benefits of climate change! The hotter, drier weather has helped reduce yields, and increased concentration and ripeness in the grapes, ultimately leading to richer, fuller (and better) wines. more gourmand, and frankly much better wines.
This vintage, 2022, is a wonderful example of what can be done with quality grapes in top-rated hands. Full rich flavours, concentrated but so approachable, impressive length and a long fine finish.
Tim Atkin says " .... dynamically floral nose complemented by stem-driven spiciness and oodles of black cherries. The tannins are powdery they are so fine, and the elegant acidity gently corrals the abundance of ripe fruit.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate said "Generous, gourmand wines that are succulent and pleasure-bent but also possess levels of complexity and depth that distinguishes them from many of their peers."
