Segredos Reserva (Gold Medal winner at the International Challenge du Vin 2023 no less!) is a big fruity, multi layered red from Alentejano.
It's a blend of Aragonez (Tempranillo), Trincadeira, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional and 'others' so not quite a Field Blend* . Saves them listing them all I suppose!
It shows a deep ruby hue with violet hints in the glass, with ripe red and black fruits (mulberry, raspberry and plum), integrated with spicy and balmy notes, such as pepper and mint.
On the palate it's well-balanced and round with rich fruits and spices coming through, with smooth tannins.
A lovely big rich wine, but not too dry so will pair beautifully with pasta, lamb, poultry etc
It even went great with soft cheeses, although it's unlikely to get that far in your meal!
*Field Blend: a blend of whatever grape varieties are in that vineyard! It's not quite that simple as they know what they have in each vineyard!

This wine is from the family-owned estate Herdade de São Miguel, described by wineanorak’s Jamie Goode as “a new Portuguese star.” Having won over 500 Golds and earned 100 90+ scores in ten years, this winery is certainly living up to that star status.
