Philipponat are one of the oldest houses in Champagne (since 1522) and their Raison d'etre is 'wine not bubbles'. Their wines are found in most of the top restaurants worldwide and with specialist retailers - and definitely not Supermarkets!
Their Champagne Royale Réserve Brut (65% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay & 5% Petit Meunier)
is deep gold in colour with amber glints. It offers a delicate froth that is lively and lingering. It is fruity, full-bodied, generous and long with light notes of biscuit and freshly baked bread on the finish.
Wine Advocate says
91 Points
This latest rendition of Philipponnat's NV Brut Royale Réserve delivers aromas of crisp pear, stone fruits and fresh bread, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and enveloping palate. Charming and pillowy, it's a giving wine that shows well.

93 Points : Top 10 Non-Vintage Champagnes
'Few producers do (Pinot Noir dominated) NV Champagne as well as Philipponat, the latest edition showcasing ripe apricot, orange citrus and pale raspberry fruit backed by precise lemon peel energy and a subtle resonance of the 34% oak aged perpetual reserve*. Hugely expressive, yet without an inch of fat, this is another irresistible NV'.

*perpetual reserve
is a 'reserve' built over time by adding amounts of wine from each harvest together. It is then used to provide a percentage of, in this case, the NV champagne from Philipponat. It is topped up yearly to replenish the 'reserve' - to be used again in future years.
This reserve provides the basis (34% in Philipponat's NV) of future NV wines. Indeed, Philipponat have created different perpetual reserves for each of their ‘multi-vintage’ blends, guaranteeing a style and level of quality regardless of the stature of the current crop.
