La Dame de Montrose is the second wine from the famed Chateau Montrose, 2eme Cru Classé and is renowned in it's own right! While 2017 was an outstanding but slightly irregular vintage, both Chateau Montrose (98 points Parker) and La Dame de Montrose (92 points Parker) shine brightly!
La Dame 2017 is made from 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Merlot and 4% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It has a deep and intense ruby-red colour and immediately offers notes of red and black fruits (blackberries, red currants, dark cherries) on the nose, with a hint of tobacco.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied with precise and silky tannins. The black and red fruit flavours continue through, with a balance of acidity and minerality. There are hints of vanilla and spice from the barrel aging process. It provides a long finish of of finesse and elegance.
La Dame 2017 spent 12 months in 30% new French Oak barrels.
Being higher in Merlot than the Grand Vin, it is always more approachable earlier but should last at least another 10 years.
La Dame de Montrose 2017 is packed in 6 btl Wooden cases
Alc Vol 13.5%
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate says
92 points (90-95 points is considered 'outstanding'!)
Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it leaps from the glass with warm red currants, black cherries and black raspberry scents, followed by earthy/underbrush notions plus hints of violets, dark chocolate and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied and firm, with loads of mouth-coating juicy fruit, it has a velvety texture and long, mineral-laced finish. It should be approachable pretty much from the get-go, although don't let its precociousness make you underestimate its aging potential. Nicely done!
