Les Allées de Cantemerle is the 2nd wine from the 5th Growth* Chateau Cantemerle and offers real value at only €27 per btl!
Les Allées de Cantemerle 2018 has a deep and inviting ruby-red colour with hints of purple. This is a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot blend (the Petit Verdot is all reserved to provide about 5% of the blend of Ch. Cantemerle itself)
On the nose there is a delightful bouquet of ripe red and black fruits. There are prominent notes of blackcurrants, cherries, and plums, which are layered with subtle hints of cedar, tobacco, and a touch of vanilla.
On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with a silky and well-structured texture. The primary fruit flavours of blackcurrant and blackberry take centre stage, backed by a pleasant touch of spice, cedar, and tobacco. There's a harmonious balance between the fruit and oak, with the oak providing subtle nuances rather than overpowering the wine. The tannins are ripe and integrated, contributing to a smooth and elegant mouthfeel. It finishes with a subtle hint of mocha and a lasting impression of balance and finesse
The 2018 vintage was excellent in all of Haut Medoc with good aging potential but this wine should be drunk in the short/medium term. It is made with younger vines and those parcels that didn't make it into the First wine but that just means we get our hands (and mouths) on a lovely Haut Medoc at a very fair price.
Les Allées de Cantemerle 2018 is packed in 12 btl Cardboard cases so we'll repack if you order 6 btls etc

*This is a good story! Ch. Cantemerle was the last 5th Growth listed in 1855 and seemingly was not on the initial list (but is on all Lists of Classified wines since). Some lists of the 1855 Classification still put an asterix beside Cantemerle's name! Wikipedia have it marked as 1856 for some reason. You can google Cantemerle if you want to read about it!
